Gwangju FC Meet and Greet

By Pearse McLaughlin

Me with Brazilian winger Thomas.

I have just moved to Jeonju in South Korea to work as a teacher, and I travelled through to Gwangju for the day for a spot of shopping at the Lotte Outlet at the Gwangju World Cup Stadium.

Gwangju FC where hosting a meet and greet on Saturday with three current first team players who are out injured and they are Thomas, Sang Ki-Lee and Lee Eu-Ddum. This is a fantastic concept by the club as they are looking to grow their fanbase and what I saw was everyone having a tremendous time and it was a success.

On the left is Lee Eu-Ddum and on the right hand side is Sang Ki-Lee.

This is a great opportunity for both parties as young fans can meet their heroes, have their picture taken with them, signatures from all three players, Gwangju FC mascot was there too, and you got a goodie bag as well. In terms of Gwangju FC’s benefit of this was to advertise their upcoming match on the Sunday afternoon vs Gangwon FC.

Prior to kick off on the Sunday vs Gangwon FC there was also another meet and greet. This time it was with one of the rising stars of the K-League 1 in Eom Ji-Sung with fans desperate to see their key man. Sadly, I was under the weather on Sunday so couldn’t attend the match and meet Eom Ji-Sung.

I'd just like to say a special thank you to Thomas and say what an absolute pleasure it was to meet you. Thomas was more than happy to see me want a picture with him and later on Instagram I tagged him in a post which he responded with the comment, "Nice to meet u there"

This is a touch of class to receive a reply on my post from a professional footballer and this itself is a dream come true! It was a small gesture to reply on my post but trust me it goes along way and I will never forget this interaction! Thomas has shown he is a prime example of a model professional that is willing to go above and beyond to please his fans.
